Pairing(s): Stelian Frost/Sparrow | Stacey Katharos
Prompt(s): OTP Christmas 2015 1. holiday cheer

Sparrow yawned and let out a little groan as she stretched, arms reaching toward the headboard. Frost leaned over and pressed a kiss to her temple. "Happy December First."

She glanced over at him, raising a skeptical brow. "Is that a holiday now?"

"It's the beginning of the holiday season."

She couldn't help rolling her eyes. "Not everything can be 'the beginning of the holiday season'. You said the same damn thing in October and November. Make up your mind, would you?"

"Fine," he said, giving her that little smile that proved he still somehow found her obstinance endearing, "October is the beginning of the holiday season; December is the beginning of Beneficence."

"You're aware Beneficence is a day, not a month?"

"I'm aware. I'm also aware that apparently, you are distinctly lacking in holiday cheer. I assume you realize that means it'll be my mission this month to change that, yes?"

She scoffed. "Good luck. It's not like I've never celebrated the damn holiday before; I just don't like it."

Frost looked every bit as skeptical as she did. "Oh, no, you're not getting out of this one that easily. You have not celebrated this holiday before; not to my standards, at least."

"I don't doubt that. I doubt anything's up to your standards in Solares, as a matter of fact."

She was right not to trust his sudden smirk. "Well, one thing was, at least." His hand slid along her waist beneath the covers, settling onto her hip. Disinterested but far from repulsed, she let it linger there, and she shook her head.

"Let me guess; your own 'holiday cheer' is going to manifest in the form of pestering me until I at least pretend to enjoy this inane holiday?"

"It's not inane," he protested. "It's a holiday about charity. Surely that appeals to you?" Sparrow laughed, and it must have sounded more derisive than she'd meant it, because Frost's expression fell into a frown. "What?"

"Sorry. It's just that I, uh, wouldn't exactly call Beneficence, you know, charitable. Greedy, perhaps. Commercial, definitely. It's kind of a holiday for rich people, in case you weren't aware."

From the look on his face, he wasn't. "The holiday revolves around giving. How is that not charitable?"

"Oh, please. It's not about giving; no one spends December thinking about what they're going to give. They spend it thinking about what they hope to get."

"I wasn't aware the two were mutually exclusive."

She shrugged. "The might not be," she admitted, "but in my experience, everyone seems to find one a lot more important than the others. And if there is an abundance of charity that's supposed to be going to Solares this time of year, believe me when I say I never saw a fucking bit of it."

"Well, you're going to see it this year, whether you like it or not." She raised a brow. "I am going to make sure this is the best Beneficence you've ever had."

Sparrow gave him a laugh. "If you say so; I'm sure it can't be any worse."
