Orsimeon is the King of the Gods who rules alongside his queen, Elyon the Fair. Their nine children are the Godly Princes: Auron, the eldest and his father's most trusted aid; the next eldest, Lycan, who is actually a child of the older pantheon under the care of Orsimeon; the middle children, Safira, Artaurus, Demetria, Lonus, Tarania, and Adolphus; and the youngest, Prosperia, so new to the world that she would be considered young even by mortals.

Orsimeon's nemesis is Damonite, the last of the Elder Gods and the only one to escape their purge at Orsimeon's hands. But he has a dark secret: he's spent the past few thousand years under the guise of young Lycan, ingratiating himself to Orsimeon, Elyon, and their children. As Lycan, he's cultivated a reputation for being an innocent prankster; as Damonite, he's a master of deceit and his trickery has a much more sinister edge, as is demonstrated during the Night of Fear.

The Night of Fear occurred during a winter solstice, the night of the year when Damonite is at his most powerful and Orsimeon is at his least. During the Night, Damonite ambushed the Nine Princes, stealing each of them away under cover of darkness. And the price of their freedom was Orsimeon's head.

No one realizes his deception, for they've all come to trust their foster brother as harmless... except for young Prosperia, whose lack of preconceptions lets her see what her siblings can't.
